AFIA to host nutrition program during IPPE

ATLANTA — Finding new uses for “old” ingredients will be the focus of a special nutrition program by the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) during the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE), planned Jan. 27 to 29 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

The program, “A New Understanding About ‘Old’ Ingredients,” will explore the latest science and perspectives behind ingredients used in animal feed formulations. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Jan. 28. Leading experts and researchers will share fresh insights on how “old” ingredients reveal “new” performance benefits.

“This symposium offers a unique opportunity for feed industry professionals to revisit familiar ingredients with a fresh, evidence-based lens,” said Yuan-Tai Hung, Ph.D., senior manager of Research for the Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER). “As new research continues to uncover hidden benefits and impacts, these discussions are shaping how we apply precision nutrition to advance diet formulation and animal performance in the years ahead.”

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how these established ingredients contribute to animal health, nutrition efficiency and sustainability, as well as discuss emerging findings on the roles of both micro- and macro-ingredients in modern feed programs.

The IPPE will provide more than 80 hours of education programs, along with on-floor activities and networking opportunities for the animal food, meat and poultry and egg industries. Exhibit space exceeds 651,000 square feet, the largest trade show floor in the event’s history, and includes 1,250-plus exhibitors.

Sponsored by the AFIA, North American Meat Institute and US Poultry & Egg Association, the IPPE trade show floor will showcase the latest solutions, technologies, research, processes, services and products that the global animal food and protein industries have to offer.

Feed focus

Also new this year, the AFIA is offering a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) training and certification course in conjunction with the IPPE. This specialized training is designed to help animal food importers meet the requirements of the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and ensure the safety of imported ingredients used in feed production.

The course provides a deep dive into the essential elements of FSVP compliance, including hazard analysis, supplier evaluation, verification activities and documentation procedures. Participants will learn how to develop and maintain an effective FSVP, ensuring the safety and integrity of imported food products.

Led by qualified Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance-trained instructors, the course offers practical guidance and hands-on tools for implementing a supplier verification program. Attendees will receive an official FSVP Certificate of Training, recognized by the FDA as evidence of compliance readiness.

Several other feed-related programs are planned during IPPE, including AFIA’s Pet Food Conference, Feed Education Program, the Feed Mill of the Future conference and an interactive question-and-answer session with the US Department of Agriculture’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
