RESCUE PLAN ACT. AN ANIMAL SHELTER IN BREVARD COUNTY RECENTLY GOT A LOT OF ATTENTION WHEN THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE CALLED THEM FOR HELP, WHEN A BREEDER UNEXPECTEDLY DIED. THOSE DOGS WERE ADOPTED, BUT AS OUR BREVARD BUREAU CHIEF SCOTT HEIDLER REPORTS, THIS IS THE MONTH TO ADOPT A SHELTER DOG. IF YOU’RE CONSIDERING IT. THE SPCA ANIMAL RESCUE IN BREVARD WAS OVERWHELMED WITH APPLICATIONS WHEN THERE WAS AN INFLUX OF DACHSHUNDS AFTER A BREEDER DIED A FEW WEEKS AGO. THEY ALL NOW HAVE HOMES SUNDAY MORNING THEY WENT UP FOR ADOPTION. THERE WAS ONLY SIX THAT ENDED UP BEING AVAILABLE, AND WITHIN TWO HOURS WE HAD LIKE 350 APPLICATIONS. SO CLEARLY ALL OF THEM GOT PLACED VERY QUICKLY. BUT NOT ALL THE 70 DOGS AT THE NO-KILL SHELTER ARE AS LUCKY. LIKE COLLIE, A FIVE YEAR OLD, OR JUNE SEVEN. BOTH ARE OFFICE DOGS IN THE SHELTER OR SIX YEAR OLD BEAU. THE SHELTER HERE IS FULL AND IT HAS BEEN FOR A WHILE. THAT’S A PRODUCT OF THE HOUSING CRISIS HERE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY, BECAUSE WHEN FAMILIES AND PEOPLE ARE FORCED TO MOVE, THAT MEANS THEY’LL MOST LIKELY BE FACING A CHANGE IN PET POLICIES. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ADOPTING, IT MIGHT MAKE SENSE TO CONSIDER DOING IT THIS MONTH AS OCTOBER IS NATIONAL. ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH TO CELEBRATE THAT TODAY FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH, ALL OF OUR DOGS HERE AT THE SHELTER THAT ARE SIX MONTHS OR OLDER WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR $10 TO ADOPT. SO BECAUSE IT’S THE 10TH MONTH, IT WILL BE $10 AND WE WANT TO GET AS MANY OF THEM HOMES AS POSSIBLE. BUT IF YOU’RE NOT READY TO COMMIT TO ADOPTION OR SIMPLY WANT TO SPEND A FUN DAY WITH ONE OF THE DOGS HERE, THEY HAVE A BORROWED BUDDY PROGRAM. YOU COME BY THE SHELTER AND TAKE A DOG FOR THE DAY. THEY COME WITH ALL THE SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED IN TITUSVILLE, SCOTT HEIDLER, WESH TWO NEWS. AND FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE BREVARD SPCA SHELTER OR ANY OF THE PROGRAMS, GO TO WESH. DOT COM FOR DETAILS.
