LONG BEACH, CALIF. — Redbarn, a family-owned premium pet nutrition company, announced the expansion of its best-selling Air Dried Powerfood line with the launch of its new formula for cats. According to Redbarn, the cat food can be used as a complete meal, topper or high-value treat.
Launching with a savory chicken recipe, Air Dried Cat Powerfood is made of 91% real chicken and chicken organs. It is minimally processed without any grains, gluten, GMOs and additives, making it suitable for cats with common food sensitivities, according to Redbarn.
Formulated to support an active lifestyle, Cat Powerfood features New Zealand green-lipped mussel for a source of glucosamine, chondroitin and Omega 3 fatty acids to support joint and skin health; flaxseed as a source of Omega 3 fatty acids to promote healthy skin, a shiny coat and immune function; salmon oil as a source of EPA and DHA to support joint function, cognitive function and heart health; L-Carnitine as a source of amino acid to support healthy metabolism and weight management, and vitamins and minerals to support overall feline health.
“We saw a clear demand from pet parents for high-protein, clean-label diets that are both nutritious and convenient,” said Howard Bloxam, co-founder of Redbarn, in an exclusive interview with Pet Food Processing. “Building on what we’ve learned from our success in the dog category, we were able to thoughtfully tailor this product to meet the unique needs of cats.”
Air Dried Cat Powerfood, along with the rest of Redbarn’s offerings, are manufactured in the United States at Redbarn’s two in-house facilities where its quality assurance team performs more than 10,000 tests per month on both raw materials and finished products, according to Redbarn.
“In addition to internal protocols, we partner with an ISO-accredited third-party lab to verify the accuracy of our testing,” said Jeff Balkie, co-founder of Redbarn. “Our facilities operate under HACCP protocols and are SQF-certified, exceeding industry standards for food safety, traceability and transparency. We hold ourselves to the highest safety and quality standards because pets are family, and their nutrition deserves nothing less.”
According to Redbarn, unlike traditional kibble or canned foods that are often processed at high heat, air-drying the pet food preserves the vitamins and minerals naturally found in its ingredients.
“Our air-drying method uses a slow, low-temperature approach to remove moisture while locking in nutrients, taste and texture,” Bloxam added. “It offers pet parents a safe, clean and convenient alternative that mirrors the benefits of raw food, without the risk of any harmful bacteria or any need to refrigerate the food, as the product is completely shelf stable.
